Thanks Mary Ann, each video, however small or large, is a treasure to me! I love the black ribbon around your book…and the bag would be a big deal to have in AZ with all of our dust! I always peek at the videos again and again, so many, many thanks,
Sue
P.S. Your Moss cottage looks like it would be fun to peek into, also. Snippets of it are fun to see. 🙂

I’m with Sue in that your videos are always such a treat – It’s like a visit from a happy friend! Your wonderful journal deserves it’s own special bag and a lovely rich black velvet ribbon, though I never realized the bag were to keep out the dust – I have plenty of that in my woodsy area of Maryland. I blame it onto the woods, but reaching for the feather duster isn’t near as much fun as playing with paper, thread, and memories, the way you taught us! Take care.

hey thanks chris & sue!
kind of you to say so 🙂

Happy to see you again! Your bag could even hold more paper ‘stuff’. I love love love velvet and that is a very cool idea to make slits on the back. I’ve been trying to figure out how to get some velvet on my cover and that might just be it. Wondering what you decided to do with all the little charms you thought you might put on your cover? Will they go to something else later or are you still ponder? Thanks so much for this adventure.
Mary Ann Moss says
so glad you asked this cynthia because i forgot to mention….
im going to SEW THEM ON THE BLACK RIBBON on the part that goes down the front!!!

What a good idea with a bag!!! I have made another journal for a family trip to the Alpes in March and I will make a bag so I can have the book with me all the time. Wa are going by car and its along long drive!
So it will be convenient to store maps and bits and the book in a specially made bag to lie around in the car!!! Can’t wait.
Will miss your voice and face soooooo much now. Luckily there are a couple of classes I yet haven’t taken.
Thank you Mary Ann for this class and do not ever stop charing your life.
🙂

Thanks Mary Ann. Did I read somewhere that you were going to pdf the pages of your finished book? I’ve loved seeing you work in it and it would be great fun to see a flip through of it before it gets slipped into it’s resting place.

hi jan that great big 88 pg. PDF of the travel journal can be found on the PDF page. look in sidebar. enjoy!

What a wonderful sense of accomplishment I feel when I flip through my TTV journal…and I am over the moon about mastering that diamond X binding stitch! It just may be the coolest thing I have ever made, (made allotta stuff!!). Many, many thanks for this class and the unique approach to combining travel and technique. You must do it again…pretty please! ~May I also say that you look well rested and happy! So glad!

Hi Mary Ann,
So, next time you do a bag…when you’re sewing up the sides, on one side, leave an unsewn 1-1/2″ or so, then finish sewing up to the top. When you fold over the top to the inside to form the casing, you’ll now have an OPENING on the seam through which you can run your ribbon. I.E., sewn top portion of the seam turns to the inside and covers over the open portion of the seam, leaving an opening in the casing.
Have a great weekend!! Did you see the video I sent you?
xo

Good Lord. Ya want DUST??!!!! welcome to the drought-stricken Rockies where every day’s a walk through the Sahara Desert. Love this BAG idea and REALLY love the ease and simplicity.
It will indeed be hard to go for long without hearing your voice and lolling around in your excellent humor. Personally?…I’d subscribe to the Mary Ann Moss thread on NetFlix.
p.s. I observed not one dust particle at Moss Cottage…..not that I was looking, cause I wasn’t….*wink*

Loved this Mary Ann. You never cease to amaze me, the ribbon on your journal is AWESOME. What a simple solution to a constant problem when journals get so ‘well fed’ they refuse to stay properly closed and need just a wee little bit of help. Genius I say, nothing special, you say… seriously it really is kind of special; and of course I adore the bag in all it’s humble glory. I’m a fan of totes and bags so of course I think yours is pretty nifty. I recognized the fabric too, believe you shared that on ROD way back so many years. Fun little video side note on a very special journey and class.

“nothing special”? WHAT? Of course it is! It is MAM!!!

Thank you!

I love the bag! How did you do the inside pocket? I mean, I know you can just sew a pocket to the wrong side of one of the pieces of fabric, but wouldn’t the stitches be visible from the outside? Thanks!
Mary Ann Moss says
oh but the stitches ARE visible from the outside. no big thang for me 🙂

…and this is why I think you’re great!
