Yesterday after I left San Giorgio Maggiore church I did some wandering and found (on this nearly empty island) Le Stanze Del Vetro – The Rooms of Glass. This is a huge exhibition/workshop space devoted solely to the study & appreciation of glass works.
I don’t know if it’s always free, but I think it is.
These pieces are all by Carlo Scarpa – mostly from the 30’s and 40’s.
They glow with an inner light. Captivating.
Until early January this particular exhibit of Scarpa’s will be on display. Then no doubt something equally fabulous will replace it. A nice sidetrip if you find yourself at San Giorgio Maggiore. Wander around you’ll find it.

These are stunning!
Even though my journal is not Venice themed, after seeing, reading, listening to and watching the videos in your posts, I decided to find the perfect music to extend the mood while working on my book today, so I’ve tuned into the “Italian Traditional Radio” station on Pandora. If anyone is interested in a great mix of Italian music to set the mood, just type “Italian Traditional Radio” in to the search box on Pandora, and voilá! Great background mood music for the journal voyage!

love Venetian glass and these pieces are lovely. Thankfully they don’t make me cry with homesickness. So glad you show us some of this art though, it is truly inspiring. Love love the music that accompanies all of your videos and even though I had a huge problem getting to see the gondola one for Christmas Day, I finally managed to get in. (no idea how I did it, lol.) Thank you for showing us Venice with all the side streets/waterways and frontages and I loved the gondolier tying the gondola with the rope and the other one with his fabulous scarf……ohhhh what a feast. Thank you.

Hi Mary Ann, looks like my email to you yesterday got blocked by your ISP. So here is a belated Buon Natale! Just wanted to let you know there is a free concert at the Frari church at 16.00 today – 26th. We went to Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve at San Marco, the choir was sublime but the service lasted nearly three hours, so we were pretty groggy yesterday. Glad to see you made it to San Giorgio, went up the campanile in San Marco yesterday – there were no queues! Best Wishes Pat

DALE CHIHULY stunning art glass on display at the VFMA.
The most spectacular display is his ODE TO VENICE….he spent
time there in the late 80’s/early 90’s and indeed there is a documentary
film entitled CHIHULY OVER VENICE….it may be something you can view
once you return home! Also loved your moving video of our canal journey,
