my last day in Venice. i walked and walked. just as my first day here, my last was sparkling and clear. sun sun sun. i stuck to the dorsoduro neighborhood that i have come to love.
left my camera back at the apartment. i wanted to have a day with just my eyes for taking pictures, so these photos are from days past. i walked to the top of the Accademia bridge and looked out at that splendid grand canal. mmmm what a view!
then i wound around little side passages. watched families coming home from church. ladies in fur coats and sturdy shoes.
found a lone bench in a campo in the sunshine. sat there and watched people leaving the church. some came into the campo but more walked around the other side where i couldn’t see. my curiosity led my feet to a wide walkway along the open lagoon.
to a little cafe looking out onto that blazing aqua water of the wide giudecca canal that looks like the open sea. sat at the one table left and was prepared to order a cafe latte, but i saw everyone else ordering prosecco and spritzes so i did what they did. ordered 2 proseccos one after the other. sipped slowly with my face tilting up to the sun. ate potato chips in a little basket on my little table.
watched the churchgoers and thought they have the right idea to have a pub/cafe next door. sunday spritzes and proseccos after church! greeting one another, talking, smiling. side by side with the tourists. because let’s face it. you go NOWHERE in Venice where there aren’t tourists. sure there are fewer in neighborhoods like mine, but they are still there. that’s okay. we’re all in this together.
the lookers, the readers, the lost, the map holders, the writers, the poets, the picture takers, the artists, the workers, the old ladies in fur coats, the waiters, the sun worshippers, the gondoliers, the tourists. ALL of us. on the Zattere Fundamenta in Venice, Italy. all looking out at that water, drinking our drinks, and thinking the exact same thing. ain’t life grand?

See you back home!
I have more 1 or 2 more Venice videos coming down the pipeline.
And of course more journaling videos when I get home.
If you’ve enjoyed the class so far, I’d be mighty obliged if you’d leave a little review over HERE in the comments section.
Chris says
Oh, I just sent a long annoying comment, but now I must say… HOME?
It went so quickly!
Have a safe trip and thanks for sharing the city. Hope to get there one day.

If I were French, I would say I felt desolee this morning, but as I don’t know how to do little dashes above letters when in comments that probably doesn’t get across at all. I’m happy there are a couple more videos of Venice coming, although I am sad that your trip is coming to an end. Safe travels home!
And of course I’ll write a review. I’ve been raving about this to, well, anybody who wants to listen!

Please, can’t we stay a little longer….always my comments when traveling to such fab places. You have given Venice to my heart and my soul. It will forever be a very special place. I am so indebted to you, Mary Ann, and your sharing this trip with me. I was beside you the whole way, anxiously looking around each corner of my computer for the sights and sounds of Venice! It was one of my highlights of this holiday season and I really cannot say enough about this rewarding experience! It will live on in my Ticket To Venice book! Grazie, grazie, grazie!!!
Safe travels back to Moss Cottage and a very happy, healthy New Year!

That baby in the star. Glorioso. I dunno if that’s a word, but Glorioso it is.
Ah, the endtimes, the poignancy, the aliveness, the drinking in everything on doublevolume and tripledetail.
What multidimensional richness we have shared. Thankyou is way to wee a word for this gratitude, for the real comfort and joy of having been along with you, with us all. Lovely connectivity, inspiration, expansion, delights. Such a great idea you had to do this…. such impeccable timing.
Wishing you marvellous voyage to LA. And on we go, into a fresh new decade for you to play with…. Hurrrrrray!
Please thank Venice from me, for having been such a sweet blessing, for us all. And you, for being The Divine Ms Moss. xxxj

Such a perfect way to spend your last day in Venice – letting all the sights and sounds sink into your soul where you surely will be able to find them every time you go looking. Safe travels home. May you fly on the wings of angels.

I have been with you every step of boat ride of the way. I will remember this visit for a long time. AND I am enjoying coming up with a little journal to remember it as well.
Thank you for taking us along! Have a safe trip home and continue to enjoy all the memories!
Beth Laverty says
OOPS that should have been “every step AND every boat ride” of the way.

Such a full and delightful journey. The gorgeous postcards, photos, videos, and your writing. Being allowed to walk and travel beside you, a gift for sure. AND to create a travel journal along the way to hold all the memories! Have a wonderful flight, after the joy of taking in the precious moments before you travel home to Moss Cottage and kitties. Say goodbye to the apartment, the balcony, the view, to Evelyn and to Venice…

Was it yesterday when you titled your video with “i’m home” that I feared it was over already….what a relief to find you just back in your apartment with stories of purchases and a wonderful book store! Just one more day of Venice loveliness. As always, I feel I know you and I guess I do. Dear friend, this has been such a delight – may I use that word? Magic? A special thank you for dreaming (as I know you do) up this class and knowing we would all love it, too. Let me be the first to say, “and when is your next class?” Just put that in for a smile. Best to you and thank again for taking us along with you.

Ah, the quickening of those last moments as you inhale a deep breath of Venetian air, upload the colour of the water into your memory bank, and look over your shoulder one last time as you close the door to your apartment. The days? Where did they go. It has indeed been a grand time on the grand canal, I must say. I am in your debt for dreaming up this brilliant idea, as I have said before. Someone called you “The Divine Ms. Moss”. How very fitting. Bette Midler, move over! Safe journey home Mary Ann, look forward to seeing you from Moss Cottage. with love and gratitude, xoDonna

I’m so sad that your Venice trip is ending. I LOVED checking the blog several times each day to see what new post was up. Even though I was in Venice in May, I can never get enough of this very magical City and seeing it through your eyes was a perfect way for me to relax and “travel” from my apartment for Christmas. So many of the photos you sent reawakened special memories for me.
I made a book using the double diamond stitch which I will use for drawing and instead will save your postcards in my own 2012 Venice Travel Journal. But today seemed like MAM day, so I made my 3rd ROD book to use for my art excursions in 2013!
Safe Travel Home. Look forward to seeing how we wrap the class up in the next weeks.

I can’t believe it’s the end and you are coming home. Like Mary Bailey said ‘Safe trip on the wings of the angels’ – ’cause that’s how I really feel. For me it’s always been a sad time ‘returning’ to Canada but then I never settled here….loved your entire course/class so far and can’t wait to see what your next venture will be. In the meantime, thank you for all you have shared and looking forward to more once you are home.

Oh how I hate to see that it is time to come home – I have so been enjoying seeing Venice through your eyes!
Have a safe trip back and we’ll be waiting for you on your doorstep with the cat posey.

I admit to feeling a little melancholy that you’re leaving! If you don’t mind, I think I’ll just continue to imagine you gallivanting about – sneaking into tiny crammed paper shops and feasting on delicious pastries and sending out tiny dispatches. Sigh.

I am very glad that I was able to read about your journey as it unfolded. There was a thread of understated beauty that consistently ran through the posts and videos, and I feel a small connection with you through this adventure. Who knows, maybe one day our paths will cross and I’ll be able to say, “You may not know me, but I was one of your cyber-travel companions when you visited Venice.”
I wish you a safe journey home and a flood of new memories to warm you whenever you feel the need, and I look forward to seeing your further work in the journal and its completion.
Thank you again for the experience and the wealth of ideas gathered to use within my own journals.

You can’t be on your way home already. It is too soon. Didn’t you just leave yesterday?
Have a safe and pleasant journey home and will be excited to see what you do with all your memories in your journal.

You did buy one of those pens for each of us, right? Oh, drool. Travel safely and thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing!
